How to Make the Immune Tonic Brew.

15 01 2016

The Immune Tonic Brew contains many herbs in the dried raw form…Ie. American Ginseng whole root, Reishii Mushroom, Codonopsis, Licorice Root, Sassafras bark, Maitake Mushroom, Shitake Mushroom, Astragalus root and Echinacea angustifolia root.

It is meant for modulating your immune system so it will help if it is over-active or under-active.  It is used during the season changes when people often get sick.  You can take it to prevent getting sick or to help you get better if you are already sick.

Usually you take about 1/4 to 1 cup per day.  I recommend staring with 1/4 cup and then taking it more frequently if you are fighting something off up to 3x per day.

Supplies needed are:

  1. Crock pot or large pot that can hold 4 litres of water.

     2. Stainless steel colander

     3. Cheesecloth at least 24 inches long.

     4. Stainless steel bowl.

     5. Sterilized jars with lids.  (Run through dishwasher.)

Step 1. Soak all the herbs given to you in the bag for 8 to 12 hours…12 hours is better and longer is okay…in 4 litres of water..purified water…Ie. filtered with no chlorine or other contaminants.

Step 2. Turn crock pot or stove if using large pot on stove, to low and bring to a simmer.  It may take an hour or more.

Step 3. Simmer for 4 hours.

Step 4. Allow to cool.

Step 5. Line the inside of the stainless steel colander with cheesecloth.  Make sure that the cheesecloth goes up over the sides of the colander.  Place this over a good-sized bowl.

Step 6. Pour the mixture with the herbs through the cheesecloth/colander into the bowl it is sitting over.

Step 7. Once the liquid is all in the bowl, take the cheesecloth and pull it around the “marc”, which is the herbs and squeeze all the liquid you can out of it.  Then discard this into the compost.

Step 8. Pour all the liquid from the bowl into jars.  You should have about 3 litres.  Refrigerate.

Step 9.  It should keep in your fridge for at least 4 to 8 weeks or longer.

Enemas are High! Who knew!! How to do a High Enema!

30 10 2015

Instructions on “How to do a High Enema”.  (A “high” enema means it goes to the beginning of the colon imgres-3    on the right side.)

Supplies:

  1. Fountain syringe bag (purchase at Drug Store for about $10.00)
  2. Filtered water
  3. Enema enhances: herbs, chlorophyll, aloe vera (as recommended by a health practitioner)

Steps to a great experience:

  1. Fill bathtub 1/4 to 1/2 full of warm water (or cool if you want).
  2. Hang fountain syringe bag on shower head or and adhesive hook, so tubing can reach down into bathtub.
  3. Have 1 or 2 – 1 liter glass jars ready with enema solution. (Prepare while bathtub filling.)

To prepare:

  • Fill liter glass jar 1/2 full with cool, filtered water.
  • Heat up some filtered water on the stove. (Don’t use hot water from tap.) Add to cool water till reaches body temperature.
  • Add Enema Enhancer recommended to you.
  1. Fill fountain syringe bag 1 liter at a time. (Make sure clamp is closed before filling.)
  2. Lay in bathtub on back. Open clamp to allow enema solution to just start to flow out; shut clamp. (This ensures no air is in the tubing before inserting rectal catheter.) After lubricating rectal catheter, insert into rectum.
  3. Open clamp and allow enema solution to enter slowly. Close clamp when feel pressure at rectum. Massage enema solution further up into the colon from left to right.
  4. Turn on right side. Open clamp again, allow enema solution to enter slowly. Massage colon as solution enters. Close clamp when feel pressure at rectum.
  5. Stay on side until feel urge to release. After releasing continue refilling colon with enema solution until finished.
  6. Raise knees above rectum by placing small stool or pillow under our feet while on the toilet. Massaging colon from right to left promotes better releasing when on toilet.
  7. When finished releasing, rinse fountain syringe bag with water allowing water to drain out tubing. Wash rectal catheter (after removing it from tubing) well with soap and water. Store rectal catheter in a clean container for future use.
  8. It is a good idea to smell the fountain syringe bag prior to each use to detect any bacterial contamination. If detected, soak in 3-5% hydrogen peroxide for at least 30 minutes. Then rinse well with water. (This can be used as a preventative measure as well.) Antibacterial soap (i.e. Nutribiotic) would also work well. Remember: rinse with lots of water after cleansing the bag.

NOTE: Enemas can be used daily when cleansing or detoxifying and then as needed. It takes a long time to rid the colon of a lifetime of waste! Using oral bulk fiber cleansers etc. will ensure your colon is getting a good workout and increasing its muscle tone, rather than becoming dependent on enemas. Also, increasing whole grains, vegetables & legumes in your diet will increase fiber intake.

Happy Cleansing

Garlic What?? Yes, Enemas! Great & Gorgeous Garlic Enemas!

30 10 2015

Garlic in food is a great culinary herb as we all know, but it has some very good uses in Herbal Medicine.

Garlic Enemas are useful for the following conditions;  imgres

  1. To bring down a fever in either children or adults that is caused by a virus.  (It can be used for bacterial infections if the infection is also being treated orally with herbs or in extreme infections, antibiotics.)
  2. For men who have yeast/fungus in their prostate gland.  This is not diagnosed by any medical doctor, but I have treated men with this problem and it usually presents with either a Benign Prostatic Swelling (which is diagnosed by the doctor, but cause is not investigated.) with erectile problems, not able to empty their bladder completely or even dribbling after peeing etc.
  3. Parasite infections or high yeast/fungus in the gut.

Recipe:

Ingredients required:

A.  1 or 2 garlic cloves…if you have a very large head of garlic then use only 1.

B.  Clean glass jar that will hold up to 1 litre preferably.

C.  A “Fountain Syringe” bag which can be purchased at most larger Pharmacies.  If they don’t have that type of bag then you will need to buy the regular enema bag.  These are usually situated near the hot water bottles.

D. Kettle to boil water and a pure source of water…Ie. Filtered water, no chlorine.

E. Blender is best, but could just use a “garlic crusher”.

F. Funnel lined with cheese cloth unless the strainer has fairly small holes….if possible…if you don’t have one it will still work.

G. A thick towel or old camp mattress and pillow.

H. Olive oil or Castor oil.

Instructions:

Step 1: Figure how you can lay down a thick towel or old camp mattress and pillow for your head in the bathroom…as you need to be near the toilet!   Figure out how you will hang the bag on the shower rod or in some cases if you can fit into the bathtub, hang the enema bag from the shower head.  You can use a coat hanger and then attach the bag’s hook to it…just make sure it won’t fall down!

Step 2:  Take the 1 or 2 garlic cloves and place 1 litre of warm water in your blender.  Blend thoroughly so that the garlic is in very small pieces.  (Generally it is 1 regular sized garlic clove per 1 litre water, but if you can stand it stronger do 2 or 3, but it could cause some burning if you are not careful so start at the lower ratio first.)  To make “warm” water, boil some filtered water and then add it to water that YOU ALREADY PLACED in the 1 or 2 litre jar…check the water with your “pinky” finger and make sure it feels just above “luke-warmish” before you blend the garlic into it.  You do not want the water COLD so make sure it feels warm.  Note:  Have your funnel lined with cheese cloth ready and pour the solution from the blender into the 1 litre jar you will be using.

Step 3:  Pour the solution into the enema bag and grease the tip of the rectal piece with either olive oil or castor oil and get yourself into position on your RIGHT side.

Step 4: Get onto your RIGHT side and insert the tip and gently release the clamp holding the hose of the enema bag and start massaging with one hand toward your RIGHT side…yes the one you are laying on…as SOON AS you feel pressure close the clamp and hold the solution while still massaging.  If the PRESSURE sensation goes away, then allow more liquid to go into the colon and see if you can put the whole litre in….if you can’t because the pressure becomes to great…then clamp the hose, remove the rectal piece and jump on the toilet to release.  Repeat Step 4 until the litre of garlic solution is used up.

The key is to let the water come in slowly and massage over to the right side so you can hold it in as long as you can…up to 10 minutes if possible.

PLEASE NOTE: For children, you have to use a “bulb” syringe especially for younger kids but once they are 5 feet tall approximately you can start to use the regular enema bag.  For babies and toddlers the bulb syringe is good because only about 1/2 cup water to a cup goes in and then you can either put their diaper on or sit them on the toilet.  It is a very effective fever-reducing technique in viral infections.

A NOTE ABOUT MEN’S HEALTH:  The reason this works for Candida or Fungus in the prostate gland is because the prostate gland sits right behind the rectum and it is difficult to get remedies into the prostate because of its location, but herbal remedies can be absorbed through the bloodstream in the rectum and have direct effect on the prostate gland.

The garlic used is a good anti-fungal and will not kill off good bacteria in the gut like other herbs can.  But when used for this purpose you must make sure to retain it for as long as you can and hopefully at least 10 minutes and keep doing it WITH an oral program for yeast in the prostate gland.  (Oral programs usually contain Zinc along with herbs that are also anti-fungal, and you can use garlic orally, though for extreme cases other herbs are required.)

Sore Throat Be Gone!

6 04 2015
Cayenne Pepper (also called Capsicum) drink for sore throats:  imgres-4
Step 1: Take about 75 mL of water and add 1/2 of a freshly squeezed Lemon to the water along with one opened capsule of Cayenne Pepper.
Step 2: At this point you would add any other herbs,  like Barberry, Oregon Grape Root, Garlic either freshly minced or powdered (minced mixes better), Black Walnut, Marshmallow Herb etc.  Usually you add 1 capsule or 1/4 to 1/2 tsp of the powdered or 1 tsp of the tincture.
Step 3: Then mix with the straw that you will drink with.  Do this over the sink because mucus will be released from your sinuses and throat area.  You may repeat as often as necessary.  If you have an empty stomach you will want to eat a piece of fruit before taking the drink so that you do not get nauseated.  If the cayenne is too hot for you you can add in Marshmallow Herb to cut the heat from the Cayenne Pepper.
This is good for viral and or bacterial infections, and if you use it at the beginning of a cold or strep throat you can do it every hour or two until your throat is not sore and you can get rid of the infection in less than 24 hours.
If you have Strep throat or suspect it, use Oregon Grape Root or Barberry in equal proportions to the Cayenne Pepper.  Do it every hour until your throat does not feel sore.
The way this works is; Cayenne Pepper activates your circulation and attracts white blood cells to the area to get rid of the infection, plus Barberry & Oregon Grape Root have antibacterial action in and of themselves.  But these herbs must come in direct contact with the microbes in order to be effective since very small amounts of the active constituent of the Oregon Grape Root and Barberry are actually absorbed into the blood stream.  Ie.  These herbs will not be effective for systemic infections like sepsis or blood poisoning since only about 5 % of the active ingredient is absorbed.

Fruity Lemon Water Kefir

18 12 2013

images-14

1/  1 package of Water Kefir Grains that have already been activated.  (If you do not know how to do this, then please refer to the instructions contained in the box that held the package of Water Kefir Grains.)

2/  125 mL of Cane Sugar  (Organic Cane Sugar is the best.)

3/  1 to 2 dried figs (Can also be raisins, sultanas, dried prunes etc. Organic is best.)

4/  Half a lemon.

5/ 1 to 1.5 Litres of Filtered Water, it can be water that contains minerals. Ie.  Does not have to be distilled or reverse osmosis water.

6/  2 Litre glass container or two different glass jars that will hold 1 litre each.

7/   Coffee filter or cheesecloth & 1 elastic.

8/  Plastic sieve or strainer.

9/  Plastic or wooden spoon.  (Do not use metal spoons or bowls or metal anything when you make any kind of culture.)

Steps:

1/  Dissolve sugar in the water.

In the container, pour in mineral water and add the sugar.  Dissolve sugar using the plastic or wooden spoon or even better just swirl the jar gently until all the sugar dissolves.

2/  Add the kefir grains, dried figs or dried fruit of your choice and the lemon as is, do not sqeeze it yet.

3/  Cover the container with the cheesecloth or coffee filter and secure with an elastic.  (It should not be air tight.)

4/  Place away from sunlight and leave at room temperature of 18 C to 25 C.

(65F to 77F)

5/  Allow to ferment for 24, 48 or 72 hours.  For a stronger kefir, ferment the grains longer.

6/  Once the fermentation is completed to your satisfaction, squeeze the lemon.  (Use plastic tongs to get the lemon out of the water.  Do not put hands into the water.)

7/  Strain & separate the kefir grains separately from the fruit.  Store the kefir grains in a BHP free plastic container either in the fridge or the freezer.  When you want to make your next batch, just warm it up on the counter in your kitchen to room temperature…and start the whole process over again.

Benefits of Kefir are:

  1. Helps to restore normal flora inside your gut.
  2. Helps your probiotic to “implant” inside your gut.
  3. Crowds out unfriendly bacteria, yeast and parasites.
  4. Can get rid of “tummy aches” and pains in both adults and children.
  5. Good for breast feeding women to take in regularly to increase digestion & prevent colic in infants.
  6. Good for restoring normal flora after antibiotics especially when taken with a good Human Microflora strain of probiotic.
  7. Helps to manufacture certain Vitamins like some B vitamins, vitamin K, enzymes etc.
  8. Can help with hormone balance by crowding out the yeast.
  9. Can help get rid of food cravings due to low normal gut flora.

How to stop a cold or flu in its tracks.

31 10 2013

Colds & Flus started early this fall…even before fall officially got started…a lot of people had their imgres-1“Summer Cold” going into September.  The transition times of the seasons are hard on the body and even harder if you are not well rested and nutritionally sound.

One of the best things to do to prepare for cold & flu season is to get your juicer out in September and do a week or two of juicing.  You can juice along with eating or you can do a juice fast depending on your body type and what you can handle.  This will build up the body with important minerals for the immune system, plus antioxidants & phytochemicals to protect cell membranes.  It will also help the liver detox from the summer fair of food ingested at outdoor barbecues.  Just make sure that you do not juice too many green leafy veges or you could bring on a back ache…and do them minimally if you have had kidney stones.

The other important thing to do is to bring out your fermented drinks, but not the beer!  Bring on the Kambucha, the Coconut water kefir or a nicely flavoured water kefir to replenish your gut flora. The summer stress of doing too much or stress in general, can takes its tole on the gut flora. Take your probiotics while you ingest your fermented drinks daily to increase the gut flora and increase your immune response.  Fermented foods make the probiotic proliferate profusely in your gut.

There are brands of probiotics that are especially formulated to help your immune system during the flu season.  Take them in the early morning while your stomach acid is lower.

You can also use the Homeopathic Flu prevention kits available at the Health Food store.  Just follow the instructions carefully.

For the onset of a flu or cold, put on a “flu tea” containing; Peppermint,Yarrow, Red Raspberry, Boneset and steep 30 minutes for the full effect.  A small handful in a regular sized teapot will do.  Drink it hot. Wrap yourself in blankets or sit in your hot tub or in a hot bath.  Sit, soak and drink until you sweat!  It is the best way to flush out your flu or cold fast.

For head colds, get out your trusty Peppermint Oil and take small drops on the back of your hand and lick them off.  The “Pow” of the Peppermint will clear your sinuses, ears and throat while protecting your mucus membranes from further invasion.

Make sure you have a good quality Vitamin C & take at least 2000 mg 3 times per day. If the Peppermint has not taken care of the perpetual drip coming from your nose or back of throat…and your throat is getting sore..add in Zinc lozenges or Zinc tablets with Thyme herb in them.

For a basic drippy nose try taking the 12 tissue salts.  Take 5 to 10 of the small dissolvable tablets in your mouth 3x per day.  Great at drying up the Schnoz!

Lasso the Flu and get your immune system in gear by trying out the suggestions above.

I guarantee your winter will be sweeter with a stronger system to fend off the foe!
